Gonçalo Pereira (born 1984. Lisbon, Portugal) is a multi-instrument player, post-rock, ambient electronica musician and producer.

Pereira first started as the frontman of the post-rock band How Comes The Constellations Shine before establishing himself as a solo artist under the moniker of Diamond Gloss.

His sound and melodies incorporate elements of modern classical, electronica, idm, ambient, and post-rock music with live instrumentation. His musical identity was especially influenced and shaped by Autechre, Hammock, Sigur Rós, Helios and Múm.

Primavera is the third album by Diamond Gloss. The album differ from the previous releases. The sound is more organic, the piano is definitely the main instrument. Primavera is the logical step forward from 2014’s Nomawkish, details and string arrangements were carefully written and recorded. For the first time in a Diamond Gloss album, a second musician appears on this new release. A long time friend of Gonçalo Pereira, the violinist player Maria do Mar, accepted the invitation and helped Pereira on strings arrangements. The photography and artwork design has been made by his long time collaborator, Paulo Romão Brás.

A Journey Down The Well releases a new EP called “How Little Can Be The Orchestra”

A Journey Down The Well, the band known for creating extraordinary classical music pieces, has released a new EP; “How Little Can Be The Orchestra”

modern classical ambient project

A Journey Down The Well has just released a new four song EP revealing their impulsive, unusual, minimalist approach to classical music . This is their first entirely instrumental release, as well as the first release of A Journey Down The Well as a duo. The EP is released by post-rockambientmodern classical based label, Fluttery Records. It can also be streamed free and purchased on the label website. http://flutteryrecords.com/flttry025.html

A Journey Down The Well was founded in 2006 by musicians from Turkey (Taner) and Sweden (Anna and Martin). In 2010, after releasing two albums (The Funeral Album – 2007 and Sorry Monsters, I Have To Grow – 2009) the Swedish wing left the band citing the difficulty in traveling between the two countries. Taner Torun (the only founding member remaining in the band as well as the owner of Fluttery Records) has moved the project to his hometown and partnered with Ipek Zeynep Kadioglu (cellist, Mimar Sinan Conservatory & Manchester University School of Music and Drama graduate).

The new compositions contains rich string pieces (“How”), beautiful piano-violin-cello arrangements (“Little”), ambient structures created through delay manipulations (“Can Be”) and processed cellos made to sound like a ship’s foghorn (end of “The Orchestra”).

Taner Torun says “The EP is called How Little Can Be The Orchestra and we have reasons for this. First of all, we recorded it just two people and it explains about minimalist nature of our music. Also, there is still sadness but also a gleam of hope. All four songs are about how little things have importance and make people happy with their existence like birds, kittens, children and toy instruments.”

How Little Can Be Orchestra also contains various field recordings alongside the music. Cars pass by on the street and a little girl yells at them from the window (02), fans celebrate their victory (03), newborn kittens sing along with other animals and it becomes a choir (04). Torun says “They are not spices to make the compositions colorful. They are the core elements of the compositions just like piano, violin and cello.”

The album is highly recommended if you like modern classical music, ambientPeter Broderick, Ryuichi Sakamoto, Biosphere, GoldmundOlafur Arnalds, Nils Frahm, Anne Muller, Silver Mt. Ambient Artist Diamond Gloss Releases His Debut Album On Fluttery Records

Diamond Gloss incorporates elements of modern classical, electronica, idm, ambient, and post-rock music with live instrumentation

Multi-instrumentalist Gonçalo Pereira, under the alias Diamond Gloss is a young ambient artist from Lisbon who has just released his album on Fluttery Records. The debut album is called Bears. The album is getting good reviews.

On a review on Central Michigan Life, the album is mentioned with these sentences: “It’s hard to describe through words alone how this transition is accomplished but this sound is strong and striking when experienced. Songs like “Walnut and Trees Tables” invoke the thought of taking a nap in a kindergarten music room as an autumn evening breeze chills the air outside; it’s peaceful, serene, and calming. Regardless of what type of music fan a person is, when “Bears” stands on its own it is a beautifully crafted escape through a trail that post-rock and ambient IDM do not normally travel down. With its innocent and emotional pull, it is an easy recommendation, even if this may not be your musical cup of tea.”

Swedish music website Slave State reviews this album too. “Bears is a journey into a dream world you are allowed to visit– at least, with musical help – with repetitive chunks of dark drones, unique mixes by Pereira, mediocre noise music with backwards samples which are far beyond being ordinary with the nice glockenspiels. All in all, “Bears” about everything I need for the next few months. But are you able to sit still with wide open minds for a good hour? I dare to promise to “Bears” will reward you richly!”

His influences travels among modern composers such as Arvo Pärt and Henryk Górecki, the ambient experiments of Brian Eno or his peers Autechre, Hammock, Sigur Rós, Helios and Múm. Pianos, micro-beats, effects-treated guitars, music-boxes, lo-fi strings arrangements and other acoustic instruments such as glockenspiels are the vehicles that shape this carefully produced and layered, non-linear quest. His sound and melodies incorporate elements of modern classical, electronica, idm, ambient, and post-rock music with live instrumentation.
