Diamond Gloss

FLK

Diamond Gloss is to release an astonishing ambient music album on Fluttery Records. As the previous album “Primavera” continued exploring dense ambient sound, with drone-a-like strings and sparse pianos, from “Nomawkish”, on his fourth album, named “FLK” ( pronounced folk), Diamond Gloss decides to take a new path, bringing up synths and arpeggiated pianos along electronic beats.

There is a clear change in sound and this new direction is very clear on the first track “Vocal Speed”. A beat that seems to be offbeat but it’s not. Swelling synth lines and some arpeggios on harpsichord and pianos – that’s the main ingredients of “FLK”
More organic, textured, and, still, dense and melodic.

The album rewards listeners to discover the old delicate piano style from the past few records, among the fresh sounds and new piano based songs, such as “2929” and “August”. “FLK” expects to be warm coming back to the artist’s works.

Low Clouds

Alex Dunford from Liverpool, England is ending a six year silence with Low Clouds. AL_X come back in from the cold with a seventeen song strong release, perhaps his most melodic, polished and atmospheric music to date.

A continuation of sorts from 2014’s Shunt, Low Clouds takes the familiar orchestral electronica of AL_X’s previous works and infuses it with a more textured, layered, sound. “It’s a lot calmer than previous albums, more ambient – perhaps a more cohesive album as a whole…I started listening to more drone based music, often to get to sleep! I think that subconsciously had an influence on the whole project.”

Despite this sense of serenity Low Clouds’ recording wasn’t without incident. “I wiped songs hundreds of times and started from scratch. I did struggle for a while, so I cracked open Brian Eno’s Oblique Strategy cards and used them from time to time when I hit a wall. They’d give me an answer of sorts. ‘Beyond Perception’ is a track which benefited from that as did ‘Auf Ver Loven’, That started as a techno track!’ Then there was ‘Endless Sleep Ensemble’ – the last thing to be finished, that came from a session with a string section I recorded in 2014 that I assumed I’d lost.”

Consisting of sessions at AL_X’s home studio and Salford’s Peel Hall, Low Clouds sees the return of key collaborator Jeff Jepson who lends his vocals to stand out ‘Leaving The World Behind’ as well as the most frequent contributor to his work – his environment. “I’ve been making field recordings for over a decade now. I think it adds a sense of place, helps to cultivate an atmosphere. I add some dynamics to them, more reverb, or more of a stereo picture of them. They’re all over the album.”

A unique album that manages to place evocative, pastoral, acoustic pieces next to pulsing, rhythmic, electro as a coherent piece; Low Clouds is the latest step of AL_X’s artistic journey.

Lessons From The Dreamtime

Seven Stars & Orion

Lessons From The Dreamtime is founded by Jesse Travis Maddox from Denver, Colorado. The artist combines ambient & modern classical music in a majestic way.

Seven Stars & Orion was inspired by the seven major stars in the Pleiades and their ties to history, religion and mythology. It was after reading the Sumerian story, The Epic of Gilgamesh (written in 2000 BC), that this album concept solidified for Jesse Maddox, the one-man mind behind Lessons From The Dreamtime.

From the opening notes in the first track Alcyone you get pulled into a beautifully arranged neo-classical world of ambience and minimalism. This could easily be the soundtrack from the ancient tablet containing The Epic when it says, “He went on a distant journey, pushing himself to exhaustion, but then he was brought to peace.” The track Alcyone easily describes the musical description of peace that surrounded the hero from that ancient story.

A few songs later the landscape changes into a minimal ambient track titled Maia with a bass groove that drives the energy forward while remaining classically psychedelic. This song is definitely best heard while reading the section of Gilgamesh titled DREAMS. “I had a dream last night, Stars of the sky appeared, and some kind of meteorite fell next to me…”

A highlight from the album, Taygete is prepared piano, processed hammered dulcimer and a couple of obscure stringed instruments most people have never seen before, blending into a masterpiece of ambience and intensity. Taygete would be the perfect soundtrack for your first trip to the moon, or to provide respite from all of the mindless morons during your daily commute.

The ending track Orion highlights the range of music and the incredible sound design, texture, and songwriting that Lessons From The Dreamtime has become known for. Orion was originally composed for a short animated film which can be seen by subscribing to Lessons From The Dreamtime’s email list found on their website.

From start to finish every track will keep you engaged launching you into a world that could have only been created by Lessons From The Dreamtime.

Death Will Tremble to Take Us - Death Will Tremble to Take Us

Death Will Tremble to Take Us sends the listener on a beautiful and unforgettable ride. Landscapes of unimaginable ambient textures to complex post-rock guitar-driven melodies.

The freshman release from Death Will Tremble To Take Us is an artist broadening his instrumental palette. With wild guitar noise, ambient textures, and lo-fi mutterings all expressed through passionate melodies, the self-titled album from Death Will Tremble To Take Us stands in one’s minds like a bear on his hind legs. Relenting and unforgiving with its delivery, Death Will Tremble To Take Us has something that one can barely define, it is like a long forgotten memory being triggered so vividly that one is almost taken off their feet.

From his early days recording with cheap guitars and 4 track cassette recorders, James Randolph Fouty has always been able to capture moments that seem to stand still in time. His obsession with music even lead to him taking a job as a custodian in the High School from where he graduated. Working late into the night, having access after hours to the grand piano and all of the instruments in the orchestra rooms. Armed with a Macbook and some microphones, he taught himself how to play piano and to make the most of the available spaces that only need be occupied by a person and a will. Death Will Tremble To Take Us; first release shows what a person with some will can accomplish. This is the first in what is hoped to be many releases from Death Will Tremble To Take Us.

Dan Caine - Cascades (Remastered)

Dan Caine is an ambient / post-rock musician born in 1988 in Wirral, England. Dan first picked up the guitar at age 15, inspired by a lot of alternative music, as well as his own father who played the classical guitar. He has had no formal musical training or tutoring, save for being taught a few basic chords from his father. He realised early on that making music was a great way of expressing himself and began recording his experimentations as a hobby. Eventually, in 2013, he published his first album, “Ephemeris”, which was a collection of some of his best ambient pieces that he had made of over the previous years. Since then, his music has evolved and has primarily drawn on influences from ambient, post-rock and new-age music.

For his fifth release on Fluttery Records, Dan Caine comes with a remastered edition of his 2015 album, Cascades. Characterized by long, meditative guitar soundscapes, this is Dan Caine’s defining ambient album. As with all of his works to date, the guitar is the primary tool used to create interweaving, layered melodies and atmospheric soundscapes that are powerful and moving, and full of lucid imagery. It is the perfect example of Dan Caine’s intuitive, sub-conscious style of music making where conscious thought takes the back seat, and emotion and intuition guide the creative process. There is certainly no lack of transcendental moments here, and with every listen, each of the 8 tracks reveal something new, presenting subtle nuances that draw the listener into the music. Although the mood of the album shifts between light and dark, ultimately it will take the listener on a profound journey that, by the end of the record, results in a heightened feeling of peace, tranquility and inspiration.
