What Aleph Said

Aeonia

What Aleph Said is a four-piece band playing instrumental music, based in Lausanne, Switzerland.

Aeonia was recorded during the peak of the pandemic at Studio de la Fonderie (Fribourg, Switzerland). It was live-recorded and mixed by Chris Noth (Fireantmusic) and mastered by Magnus Lindberg (Cult of Luna). The name of the album makes a hint at the idea of permanence, which already stands in the band’s name, and is a recurring concept throughout their compositions.

The album includes five tracks that lead listeners into a musical world that combines influences from post-rock, progressive rock as well as stoner. The album opens up with “Aorta”, a long track which is an invitation to journey across several distinct atmospheres, eventually leading to an epic ending. “Elephant”, the stoner track of the album so to speak, is pretty straightforward and heavy, with a progression to faster tempos fringed with the type of melodies that stick in your head. “Introspection”, track number 3, really showcases What Aleph Said’s Middle-Eastern influences. “Nostalgic”, a more classical track, taking the listener to some sort of bitter-sweet night flight through one’s life. The album ends with rather obscure and cave-sounding arpeggios of “Pyra”.

For this album, the band has worked with the Swiss-based visual artist Eva Marzi, with whom they have a long-lived collaboration, taking back to their very first EP. This joint effort definitely brings out the visual identity of the band with this handmade engraving album cover.

Echo Says Echo

Pause

Echo Says Echo is a post-rock from Paris, France band who creates complex ambiences, merging bright and gentle melodies with massive distorted guitars. The atmospheres constantly change and evolve while they explore different soundscapes. Emotional, powerful
and full of nuances, the sound captivates the listener.

Band members say that “Pause” is a story about darkness, but also about beauty. They say that the recording is also about themselves: It’s about four people who met and never stopped making music together and the album is a door to their world.

Let’s get more details from the band members:
“Imagine a land where everything has been devastated. The sky is red and dusty, the wind screams a gloomy lamentation. A simple melody can be heard afar. Pure, joyful and melancholic at the same time, the notes repeat themselves, hauntingly. After a few minutes, some shards of darkness start to blend in and dim the atmosphere. The guitars shift to heavy chords, as a tempest is about to burst. The sound becomes more and more intense. Something is going to happen. At last, the storm hits, brutal but beautiful. Fierce, monolithic, and relentless, the elements rage. Distortions rumble, roar, exult. The sky tears apart, the trees bend, the wind devastates everything in its way. The amplifiers saturate as much as they can, the speakers are pushed at their limits, they spit everything they have in their guts. But suddenly on the horizon arises a glimmer of alleviation. The deluge calms down. The sun emerges, still hidden by cloudy layers of sound. The music goes back to light and shimmery harmony. The nightmare fades out, followed by a peaceful dream. Still, you can hear the echo of the storm that passed. Hardly, but the Echo never dies out. It will take you to places you should never see, and bring you close to monstrosities that should not exist. However, even in the darkest place, there is light. It will never let you alone. You may feel scared in forsaken landscapes you don’t know, but it will always take you back to quiet and beautiful sceneries. Do not fear the trip. Don’t be afraid to make a PAUSE.”

These musicians from Paris met in 2015 and they have been playing together ever since. Their debut “Pause” is on the horizon and they can’t wait to share what they have been composing and improving over the years.

Sairen

Vestiges

Sairen’s 4th album, “Vestiges” contains the pieces he composed between 2019 – 2020. This is a more post-metal album with dark atmospheric sound which also proudly features slow tempos and resounding endings.

Vestiges is a guitar dominant album. The guitars are sometimes heavy and tormented and sometimes more playful with the use of reverbs and delays. The pieces follow each other vehemently while the artist searches meaning among the themes. Sairen says this album is more about being at the opposition and searching for truth.

Sairen composes and delivers his music from Brittany, France. His music is sometimes described as “apocalyptic instrumental pieces” by his listeners. He loves baroque and romantic music as well as dark metal or post-rock, and he sometimes defines his music as a link between these seemingly opposite worlds.

Besides musical influences from the post-metal / post-rock bands such as Mono and Will Haven, this album is inspired by the growing struggle between “being and having” and the “Orwellian era in which we are living in now” as Sairen describes.
