OP3 - Lumina

OP3 is an ambient and atmospheric music journey, with elements from different genres of music such as modern classical composition, jazz, electro and folk rhythms all coming together to provide the listener with a unique audio experience. When it comes to the live aspect of the project, these elements combined with a strong narrative, poetry and literature are coming to life by a small cast of actors flattered by the outstanding background visuals and artistically placed light show. An OP3 live show is a unique form of art one should experience.

“Lumina” is the third official release of OP3 and as the project leader Dimitris Mitropapas states, “The most expressive and vivid elements of our music so far, in display!”.

The 3-track EP capitalizes the theme of “darkness” and “light” as a metaphor for our lives. Everyone has their moments of light and on the contrary, we all do serve a great time in darkness, especially on those days when nothing seems to get off the ground. The album’s main task is to resonate with the listener in ways that make one feeling grateful to be alive and experience the ups and downs of the human nature. It’s the only way to feel alive after all. Regarding the sound elements of this release, the piano and the string quartet now has a more haunting vibe than ever as well as the electronics are sounding even more alive and being much more original both sonically and progressively.

“Lumina” is being used as a passage to make way for the next full album of OP3, titled “SmyrnAe”. In a way, it prepares the listener for what is to come in the new album since on “Lumina”, OP3 introduces new sounds and instruments resonating more with the folk and jazz elements that the new album will have in abundance.

Three tracks “Out of Darkness”, “Into the Light” and “Lumina” have been chosen to synthesize and exhibit the theme of this constant circle of our lives in an attempt to heal, motivate and breathe life into getting the best out of our human nature.

Deer Park Ranger - Bottom of the Ocean

Deer Park Ranger is the solo project of Trevor Humphrey. He formed the project in Oakland, California in mid 2016 and found his sound as he began pairing Rhodes Piano with delayed guitars, and electronics. Inspired by post-rock influences Explosions in the Sky and Mogwai, he layers simple and beautiful melodies that build into powerful crescendos.

While studying music in college, Trevor found his passion for music theory and composition. He formed Deer Park Ranger in mid 2016 after acquiring a Rhodes MK1 electric piano. He has been obsessed with the Rhodes sound for years, and loves its wide tonal range. As he became more intimately familiar with the dynamics of the instrument, he began adding on various effects to get the perfect sound that would pair beautifully with delay guitars and electronics. This new sound excites him and inspires him to build the delicate and powerful pieces of instrumental rock.

Bottom Of The Ocean is the first full length release from Trevor Humphrey’s post-rock/ambient solo project, Deer Park Ranger. After releasing 2 EPs in the last year, Humphrey has followed up with a 10 track LP of compelling and emotional songs. Bottom Of The Ocean is an extremely personal record that touches points of sorrow, pain, and fear while juxtaposing them with moments of hope, and elation. This blend highlights the dichotomy of emotions that are present during a major life change. The painful end of things you used to love, and the overwhelming excitement of your next chapter. This emotional tug and pull is present throughout the listening experience. Progressive movements are intertwined with soft piano melodies, and blended with synths and arpeggiators to create swelling soundscapes. Heavy, aggressive guitars tear through tracks like Gallows, while Part Of The Story and The Days You Used To Love are reflective and evoke feelings of nostalgia, and the title track cascades to a crescendo of hope and triumph.

Ghost Island – Destroyer

REMASTERED EDITION

Ghost Island is a post-rock band from Phoenix and they seek to relive your most ecstatic bliss just before confronting your most impenetrable fears. The band’s music makes you feel far from home while offering a comforting solace that comes from within.

Initially planned as a small EP release by John, Destroyer blossomed into a full-length album once John and Roddy began collaborating. Written from a place of self-reflection, the album reflects John’s crumbling network and inner circle of friends, stemming from his previous band's breakup; Destroyer takes a dark journey through nine tracks full of doubt, anger, fatigue, and loss. Recorded entirely in a small bedroom in Phoenix, Arizona, and mixed in-house, Destroyer represents the initial foundations of a band still discovering it’s identity while trying to survive as individuals. The album was first released independently by the band in 2015. Three years later, Fluttery Records releases a remastered re-issue of the album.

John Romero of Ghost Island says, “This album represented a fresh start and a huge release of emotions following the break up of Cassiopeia, my previous band. It was an honor to be able to work with Roddy, as we soon discovered that we push each other musically, and compliment each other’s style so very well. The album is still very experimental to me, as there is one whole concept surrounding the title itself, but each song on this album stands well on its own and doesn’t need any back story to help understand it.

The Siren Sound: "Each track on ‘Destroyer’ constantly opens new avenues to explore, but in a continuous and structured fashion. That in mind, the real pride and exultation of Ghost Island debut is how they’ve managed to put together such beautiful noises yet remaining extremely approachable without losing their sense of adventure. This debut album can shift between accessible to enigmatic and back without you even noticing it. That’s how fluid the sound is. Truthfully speaking, the final outcome is outstanding; how outstanding it is though, is up to you to decide, but there is no denying that what the music Ghost Island creates is something else, something rarely found from other musicians in the same scene.”

Oh Hiroshima - Resistance Is Futile

The debut album of Swedish post-rockers, Oh Hiroshima is a pure example of DIY aesthetics. From initial ideas to complete musical product, everything was provided and created by the hands of the band members. Self-released digitally by the band itself in 2011, Fluttery Records is now finally making the CD-release of this marvelous album for the first time.

Oh Hiroshima is a guitar driven post-rock quartet originally from Kristinehamn, Sweden. Through a thoroughly heartfelt sonic output, that manages to mix powerful energetic crescendos with tender melodies and atmospheric vocals, the band marks itself as one to follow.

What started out as a project recording duo resulted in a couple of self-produced EPs and was later transformed into a full-fledged post-rock act which released the debut album ‘Resistance Is Futile’ in 2011. The band followed up with sophomore album ‘In Silence We Yearn’ in 2015; a record that saw the band pushing their artistic vision into a more unified frame while still maintaining an appealing diversity with each song. The shift mainly came out of the band being able to shape the songs together live in the rehearsal space, with all members contributing to the creative process.

Since the bands first recordings, fans have kept spreading the music internationally through forums, blogs and other internet sites, some of which generated listeners from all over the world. Over the years, Oh Hiroshima has certainly proven their capability of capturing the dynamic possibilities involved in the conception of a narrative sound, as well as the attention of listeners seeking an emotionally poignant musical experience.

While short in time span, Resistance Is Futile is certainly not lacking in potential for a deep sonic experience where the gamut of human emotions stretches wide. As a whole, the album runs in a constant flow while still showcasing a variety of approaches within the genre. We experience ambient sessions, catchy melodies sparkling with thick delay, as well as darker sludgy moments. Traveling between hope and despair, calm and storm, and all in between, this is not music for the faint of heart.
