Diamond Gloss comes release an astonishing ambient album on Fluttery Records after a few silent but productive years.
As the previous album “Primavera” continued exploring dense ambient sound with drone-a-like strings and sparse pianos, from “Nomawkish”, on his fourth album, named “FLK” ( pronounced folk), Diamond Gloss decides to take a new path, bringing up synths and arpeggiated pianos along electronic beats.
It is same Diamond Gloss sound but there is delightful differences in this album. There is a clear change in sound and this new direction is very clear on the first track “vocal speed”. A beat that seems to be offbeat but it’s not. Swelling synth lines and some arpeggios on harpsichord and pianos – that’s the main ingredients of “FLK”. More organic, textured, and, still, dense and melodic.
The album rewards listens to discover the old delicate pianos from the past few records, among the new sounds and kind of piano based songs, such as “2929” and “August”. This is one of the delightful ambient releases of the year as 2020 comes to an end.
