Maïak
Maïak was formed in Lausanne, Switzerland back in 2010. Four instruments: the classic drums, bass and two guitars. The four musicians were already active in progressive and instrumental projects. David, the bass player, was just recovering from the breakup of his previous band, The Evpatoria Report.
They deliver a dark and powerful post-rock that evolves between tenuous melancholy and chaotic blast. They all share a penchant for long, slowly fluctuating and ascending compositions and a fondness for saturated tube amps when it comes to make a point. Their music somehow always manages to catch the listener by surprise and unleash her or his emotions, be it sorrow or pure furor.
You can find some hints of their intentions through the dark humor recurrent in their enigmatic titles, often tainted with political cynicism. But they leave it up to you to experience their musical world with your own interpretation.
Maïak was named after a nuclear plant in Soviet Union who has been the theater of one of the worst nuclear disasters of all times, back in 1957. An incident with dramatic consequences whose existence was hidden for decades.
