Susanne Darre, a Norwegian composer and pianist, weaves her musical tapestries amidst the breathtaking vistas of Northern Norway. Her debut album, “Fragile,” features evocative piano melodies that capture the essence of the region’s serenity.

Her artistry lies in crafting modern classical compositions that resonate with the human experience, unveiling the intricate threads of emotion that bind us all. Through tender strains and poignant compositions, she encapsulates the intricate emotions of life – its vulnerabilities, yearnings, dreams, and losses.

Recorded predominantly within the rustic confines of her weather-beaten barn amidst the unforgiving Arctic winters, Susanne’s old acoustic piano resonates with a haunting beauty, each note imbued with the chill of the surrounding air. “With cold fingers, gloves, several wool sweaters and scarf, I recorded the pieces, warming my fingers between each recording.” she adds.

The album unfurls with the evocative opener, “Balancing,” a profound reflection on life’s delicate equilibrium. Susanne Darre’s mastery of the piano crafts an intimate ambiance, suffused with melancholy and tranquility, inviting listeners into her emotive world. Drawing inspiration from the awe-inspiring Arctic vistas—the crystalline seas, majestic mountains, and the ethereal dance of the northern lights— Susanne channels the essence of her surroundings into her musical tapestry.

The album’s centerpiece is the piano’s timbre shifting in harmony with the whims of nature—its temperature, humidity, and even the creaks of the aged wood echoing the symphony of life’s imperfections.

Darre took on the roles of producer, mixer, and mastering engineer for her debut album, “Fragile.” This hands-on approach showcases her comprehensive involvement in the creative process. The album features both acoustic piano recordings, capturing the instrument’s natural resonance, and integrations of ambient sounds from the surrounding environment.

The album artwork, her own photograph of an Arctic Bluebell bravely enduring the harshness of Northern Norway, is also symbolizing something fragile, beautiful, and resilient. Susanne Darre’s multifaceted talents are on full display in ‘Fragile,’ a stunning piano album that showcases both her technical mastery and unique artistic vision.
