Dan Caine - Solace

Dan Caine is an ambient / post-rock musician from Merseyside, England. A pioneer in the movement, Caine uses powerful, layered guitar melodies to create an atmosphere of an intense range of thought and emotion as he explores the depths of the human psyche. His music is a free-flow of subconscious urge and instinct; a deep dive into the unhindered world of the Id. Much like a fine wine, these meditative works expose more and more of their depth with each listen, and like a mood ring, they morph and change to reflect the state of the listener perceiving them.

Fading Tapes - Circles

Fading Tapes was formed in 2014 by Krzysztof Siwkowski (guitars and synths) and Marcin Lasek (drums and other effects) in Szczytno, Poland, mainly playing space-rock / post-rock and ambient music. Their main inspirations are independent cinema and life itself.

They started their musical journey in 2006 long before they became Fading Tapes. In the beginning they focused on genres like ambient and electronic. They pivoted their sound and started to play live instruments such as classic guitars and african drums, combined with synthesizers and extraordinary sounds and voices. They decided to change main instruments to only electric guitars, which creates today their specific spatial sounds and effects, and percussion which gives sharpness, psychedelic or gentle space rhythm. Since then they formed as a Fading Tapes.

Circles is their second album for Fluttery Records. It is an album heavily relies on artistic creativity and improvisation. “In the beginning there was one circle, the life cycle from which the five minor were made, of which the fifth was the crown, the dark end.” says the band members.

Almost everything was recorded on tape reels, so we got strong saturated, analog sounds. This album has more dynamic songs with sharp and heavy percussion and deep, organic guitar background.

Deer Park Ranger - Moderation

Deer Park Ranger is a post-rock & ambient solo project of Trevor Humphrey from Oakland, California. After introducing his brand of post-rock with his debut EP, Trevor Humphrey has followed up with a dynamic and powerful collection of post-rock songs for his second Deer Park Ranger release. From the opening discord of “Shipwreck” to the finality of French horns fading out on “Selling All the Shelves”, Moderation is profoundly emotional and deeply affecting.

While the core elements of the Deer Park Ranger sound remain intact, Moderation showcases a greater sonic range and explores new sounds. The Rhodes piano is featured prominently, but often through heavy distortion, delay, or modulation. Humphrey continues to approach song writing and composition by layering sounds and building dense soundscapes full of rich textures. Melodies interact across layers of guitar and piano that create movement and evoke emotions ranging from melancholy to triumph.

Ruin!Ruins! - Mammock

Ruin!Ruins! is rough post-rock from the Siberian forest, with the rhythms of the dilapidated devastated cities, with the howl of signal sirens, with the alarming voice of the cello, narrating about internal destruction leading to tragic consequences, but retaining the hope of salvation. Here they are: Andrey Meyer (guitar), Aleksey Lebedev (bass), Mikhail Sigarev (guitar), Artyom Karpeshin (drums). The band was formed in 2015 to play music with the atmosphere of destruction and hopelessness.

Dirty sound of guitars as a thoughts about unfulfilled dreams carries us to the cliffs of an overdriven bass, which baring all our nerves. Despite all these obstacles, the stream carries us to the pacifying landscapes, where our soul falls into euphoria and fills with energy for further travel.

Mammock is music that everyone understands in their own way. You will find aggression and pacification, speed and slowness, brightness and turbidity, anxiety and calmness but no one will find negative energy in the music. Mammock – it’s the music of disappointments and losses, throwing to the top of emotions, bringing into a state of euphoria, a temporary sense of joy and happiness, but immersing in the original state at the end of the journey.

Some tracks were written in a state of awareness of the loss of relatives, the experience of despair and the meaninglessness of the continuation of life. Any phenomenon is a cycle - birth - development - fading - death - transformation - a new birth. The mammock is the source for a new birth. Source, which absorbed all the good and negative signs actions of past years. There may be something good and beautiful from the mammock, despite all the bad things that were before.

Music for album was written in the first year of band's activity and recording this album began in January 2017. The album recording, mixing and mastering were completed in May 2017. Originally Polynya had acoustic sound, but the musicians decided to remake the sound and recorded a new version 2 weeks before the album was completed.

Heron - You Are Here Now

Hailing from rural Northwest Pennsylvania, Heron plies a particularly entrancing brand of instrumental rock that teems with life even in its most bittersweet moments. You Are Here Now is the title of their debut album, and while that declaration may seem to address the listener, it is also symbolic for the band members themselves; it is like a snapshot earmarking a significant stop during a long journey. Coming as so many modern post-rockers have from a youth spent in post-hardcore, brothers Ben and Nate Blick have spent the better part of a decade and a half playing music together, leading up to this exact point. Joined by bandmates Boyd Lewis and Eric Morelli, You Are Here Now is drawn from the archives of a year spent jamming once a week, recording every practice until they were able to crystallize all of their shared ideas into seven songs that best represent exactly who they are at this moment.

In order to best capture the feeling of immediacy and to showcase the band as a true collaborative, Heron recorded You Are Here Now live rather than tracking their parts separately. The raw recordings were then sent to Washington State, where they were mixed by the inimitable Matt Bayles (Caspian, Russian Circles, Minus the Bear, This Patch of Sky) and mastered by Ed Brooks (Death Cab For Cutie, Fleet Foxes). The nuanced touch of these seasoned veterans results in a beautifully polished album that manages not to sacrifice the sense of artistic togetherness that can sometimes be lost in the name of overproduction.

To build on the theme of nature invoked by their namesake, You Are Here Now is reminiscent of the first week of spring. It is built carefully on placid refrains, but eventually blossoms forth with instances of breathtaking beauty, stunning bursts of life that drive memories of the cold to the back of one’s mind. It could be classified as conventional contemporary post-rock, but it thrives on intangibles, a clear chemistry between band members that lends more power to their compositions. This is an album where every note, every drum flourish, the wide open spaces the band allows for in which to build their melodies, they all land just as they should – everything in its right place.

As Heron continues to expand and define who they are artistically, it is up to time to determine what will materialize beyond the horizon. But this is where they are now, and in joining them, listeners will discover what a beautiful place it is to behold.

Arms Of Tripoli - Daughters

Since its humble beginnings, Arms Of Tripoli has pioneered the art of instrumental rock, utilizing a non-conventional format to creating innovative and timeless sounding indie music. Not easily pigeonholed, Arms of Tripoli has often been dubbed post-rock and math-rock, due to their progressive tendencies and dynamic and layered sound. Using some standard rock fare such as guitar, bass and drums along with the addition of less-typical rock instrumentation, such as Vibraphone, Rhodes and Omni-Chord, Arms Of Tripoli has been able to stand out amongst the sea of post-rock and carve out a niche all its own. At the heart of their sound are well written songs with very catchy melodies, at times melancholy and often cinematic while being free of over indulgence.

Based out of Los Angeles, CA and formed in July of 2011, Arms of Tripoli continues to be an ever-evolving and uniquely independent instrumental band. After parting ways with long-time friends Robert Bauwens and Vic Lazar in late 2014, the remaining core, consisting of Mike Bouvet, Jaime Galvez, and George Tseng welcomed the arrival of Allen Porter. Allen had previously worked with Mike on other side projects and came with immensely high recommendations as someone that would not only gel with the rest of the band, but strengthen and fortify its sound. Thus the new line-up was solidified and they all instantly developed camaraderie. The quartet immediately found natural chemistry and started working on new material that would eventually become "Daughters," the highly anticipated Arms Of Tripoli full-length follow up album to 2014’s “Dream in Tongues.”Upon completion of tracking “Daughters,” the band added long-time friend, collaborative partner and extremely talented multi-instrumentalist, KC Maloney (Adult Karate, Radar Cult), to the line-up, filling out the void in the live set and completing the sonic experience of the band.

Arms of Tripoli’s second full length album, Daughters, is truly a post-rock work of art. The dynamic layers of the songs slowly unspool, climatically ramping up to convulsions of euphoria inside the brain. The album is a beautiful reflection of the diverse and numerous influences which are apparent in each member’s contribution to the collection of songs. Shades of many subgenres of progressive, post and math rock sprinkle the album with undertones of compelling influence which all congeal into a solid, substantial overall release for the band’s sophomore LP; a very worthy follow-up to 2014’s Dream in Tongues.
