Collapse.Rebuild - Fail Again, Fail Better

Collapse.Rebuild. is a post-rock band from Milan, Italy. The title of their debut Collapse.Rebuild album comes from a quote by well-known Samuel Beckett: ”Ever tried. Ever failed. No matter. Try again. Fail again. Fail better” and seems to perfectly embrace the philosophy of their music - and lives as well. Far from being interested in where their travels might take them, these guys seem to mostly enjoy the itinerary.

The group says that every song is actually a photograph, the sum of their emotions in that specific moment in time and space. As a result, in their music you can find post-rock as well as jazz and punk. There's pretty much positive energy flowing, and liberty as well. "Just press play and let it go along by your own emotions and thoughts."

They explain the band's approach to music and writing process: "Up to now Collapse.Rebuild has been a happy marriage, we just decided that every single note and sound should be played with guitars, bass and drum; no electronics, no overdubs, so what you hear in the album is nothing else than what you hear live, there's almost no editing in this album."

It's your time to discover, feel and smell the music.

Geary - The Silent Watcher, the Mountain is Woe

Matt Geary is an American guitarist born in 1992 and raised in the working class suburbs of Philadelphia who blends ambience, folk and post-rock. He can create wonderful things with only a guitar and piano at his disposal. Drawing from a rich background of influences ranging from Robbie Basho, Rosetta, Max Richter and the writings of Carl Jung, Geary weaves tapestries of intersecting, flowing melodies floating over shifting post-rock ambience, all of which is handled with grace and finesse on his debut album "The Silent Watcher, The Mountain Is Woe."

Movement is the key to Geary's approach to music, evident in his song titles describing an emotion as a "Line of Despair," or how the act of sleeping seems to be dogged by cryptic conversations in his world. However nowhere is this more evident than the music itself, with frenetic chord progressions bursting out of contemplative fingerpicking or from the melody of a solitary piano. All of this is backed by cascading waves of guitar abstractions, although in Geary's hands they sound less like aimless feedback and more like transmissions of a celestial nature. "The Mountain Is Woe" perhaps because it is stationary.

This is music for internal exploration, in equal parts contemplative and engaging. No words are necessary and the empty space is as important as the chords. Geary sets the stage for wandering thoughts with his compositions and leaves interpretation to anyone who would listen.

Maïak - A Very Pleasant Way to Die

Maïak creates one of key post-rock releases of 2015. They created to something big, something to be heard!
Created in 2010 in Lausanne, Switzerland, Maïak is composed of four musicians influenced by wide dynamics of post-rock soundscapes and fearless to experiment sudden shifts of atmospheres.

The group was named after Maïak, a nuclear plant in the Soviet Union, where one of the worst nuclear disasters of all times took place and despite its dramatic consequences, stayed hidden for decades.

Filled with the symbolic weight of a catastrophe that arose as the punishment of man’s guilty arrogance in an outburst remained silent, Maïak delivers a dark and powerful instrumental rock that evolves between tenuous melancholy and chaotic blast.

"A Very Pleasant Way to Die" is the pure post-rock at its best.” says Taner Torun, our label founder.

Recorded with a certain sense of urgency (three days session for forty two minutes of pure post-rock music), "A Very Pleasant Way to Die" wanders through the different colours of the band's aural palette. The album seethes with raw energy.

The five tracks share complex constructions, blending murky soothing melodies with outbursts of powerful clamour and noiseful explorations. You would at times crave to lie down and gaze at the stars, but you would soon feel the urge to bounce back on your feet and bang your head until you break your neck.

There is a sense of rawness in this album, comes with delicately plucked guitar notes, noise form the distortion and synth haze hovering in the background. The duo tries to reminiscent of what’s left from their first album “The Bloodline” and present it in cinematic and heavy way.

Let’s hear what they say: “We try to produce an album that has matured in sounds and in our style of composition. And this time, it's far more restrained, heavy, delicate, and atmospheric. Dogma is the beginning, it is a prove that we have a lot to offer."

Stems - Polemics

This time, we are getting to you with a band representing art rock embellished with strings, a band creating epic cinematic compositions full of sweeping elegant darkness and hypnotic delicate intensity - Stems.
Based in Huddersfield, UK, Stems formed in 2011 with the idea of seeking a new relationship between experimental guitar and classical instruments, to create music with the energy of rock music but with elongated and intense structures of Western and Indian classical music. The name Stems is derived from the idea of roots diverging to produce unique strands, all of which are bound to a central body.

The sound of the album is that of contradictions; Calm and delicate yet intense and darkly uplifting. Dreamlike beautiful music that builds from simple rhythms/ melodies/ drones, reaching elegant hypnotic climaxes and intense crescendos that have now been interwoven with a string and wind ensemble.

Experimental guitar blends with classical strings while eastern influences on technique and composition are mixed with minimalism and classical theory such as counterpoint and organum. The resulting album is cinematic, powerful, elegant, both new and truly engaging.
