A cruise between two different worlds: “Blend” by Runar Blesvik

Runar Blesvik is a modern classical music composer, producer and pianist based in Oslo, Norway. He has composed for several short films and projects, thereof mainly orchestral music. Lately, he has widened his field to include intimate modern classical piano music mixed with electronic tones.

Cinematic and evocative music is Runar Blesvik’s forte. At an early age, he felt at home in front of the piano, and has since found his voice in composing. Inspired by the stunning nature of Western Norway where he grew up, his music echoes beautiful and dramatic landscapes, as well as different states of mind. Spectral piano chords and wistful melodies contrasted with rigorous electronic soundscapes will guide you through a deeply affecting and diverse experience. Runar produces, records and mixes all the music he releases.

Runar Blesvik’s debut album is a blend between different soundscapes – from emotional, fluid piano pieces to dark, enigmatic electronic music. Combining haunting melodies with layered harmonies, the organic with the synthetic has made the music contrasted and unpredictable. Exploring both the classical and pure as well as the synthesised and abnormal, this music will take your on a cruise between two different worlds.

Inspired by some of today’s and yesteryears’ leading composers in modern classical and electronic music, Runar Blesvik has paid homage to different styles while making his compositions truly unique. “1976” is a callback to Jean-Michel Jarre’s heyday, while “Flow” explores the layered piano sounds of Nils Frahm.

Dan Caine’s Cascades have been remastered

We are very glad to announce we have just released Dan Caine’s Cascades, this time it comes as remastered and now it is also available on CD as well as other digital formats. For those who hasn’t listened to his music yet, Dan Caine is an ambient / post-rock musician known for creating textured, layered guitar melodies that explore a vibrant range of subconscious thought and emotion. English musician is now living in Los Angeles, CA.

For his fifth release on Fluttery Records, Dan Caine comes with a remastered edition of his 2015 album, Cascades. Characterized by long, meditative guitar soundscapes, this is Dan Caine’s defining ambient album. As with all of his works to date, the guitar is the primary tool used to create interweaving, layered melodies and atmospheric soundscapes that are powerful and moving, and full of lucid imagery.

It is the perfect example of Dan Caine’s intuitive, sub-conscious style of music making where conscious thought takes the back seat, and emotion and intuition guide the creative process. There is certainly no lack of transcendental moments here, and with every listen, each of the 8 tracks reveal something new, presenting subtle nuances that draw the listener into the music. Although the mood of the album shifts between light and dark, ultimately it will take the listener on a profound journey that, by the end of the record, results in a heightened feeling of peace, tranquility and inspiration.

Dan Caine - Cascades (Remastered)

Dan Caine is an ambient / post-rock musician born in 1988 in Wirral, England. Dan first picked up the guitar at age 15, inspired by a lot of alternative music, as well as his own father who played the classical guitar. He has had no formal musical training or tutoring, save for being taught a few basic chords from his father. He realised early on that making music was a great way of expressing himself and began recording his experimentations as a hobby. Eventually, in 2013, he published his first album, “Ephemeris”, which was a collection of some of his best ambient pieces that he had made of over the previous years. Since then, his music has evolved and has primarily drawn on influences from ambient, post-rock and new-age music.

Cold, Cold Heart - Arch

For the past two years Cold, Cold Heart have been working (slowly) on the follow up to their BBC 6 music celebrated debut album and return with an EP entitled ‘Arch’.

Cold, Cold Heart is a post-rock / ambient band from London, UK. Robert, Chris and Gareth assembled in early 2014 out of friendship and a shared admiration for bands such as Stars of the Lid, Low and Sparklehorse. It is this character that informed the band’s 2015 debut, “How The Other Half Live And Die”, an album so tuned into heartbreak and loss and then mourned and celebrated in a collection of ruptured, elegiac and sky-bound instrumentals. “How The Other Half Live And Die” stands as a shared soundtrack to life. “Anxiety, illness, depression, hope and repair are all things that can be felt by anyone, at any point. We have all had our fair share”, explains Robert. To the fear and beauty in death.

With time and focus spent on the development of their sound, the result transports the listener through life itself, representing the roaming adventure towards happiness and contentment. Entwined with the narrative, the integration of a string quartet and modular synthesizers have bolstered the grandeur, leaving the listener captivated by their sonic exposition.

Recorded in Surbiton and West Sussex throughout 2016 and 2017 ‘Arch’ comes from a simplistic, pure place; displaying an incredible and developed sense of control and restraint in their work, while still resonating between order and chaos, glitter and dirt, beauty and destruction. Nothing is planned or predetermined with Cold, Cold Heart’s output, only that it’s a journey worth taking.

Deer Park Ranger shows the Bottom of The Ocean

We are very happy to announce that Deer Park Ranger comes with his third release on Fluttery Records.  Bottom Of The Ocean is the first full length release from Trevor Humphrey’s post-rock/ambient solo project, Deer Park Ranger (Oakland, CA)

After releasing 2 EPs in the last year, Humphrey has followed up with a 10 track LP of compelling and emotional songs. Bottom Of The Ocean is an extremely personal record that touches points of sorrow, pain, and fear while juxtaposing them with moments of hope, and elation. This blend highlights the dichotomy of emotions that are present during a major life change.

The painful end of things you used to love, and the overwhelming excitement of your next chapter. This emotional tug and pull is present throughout the listening experience. Progressive movements are intertwined with soft piano melodies, and blended with synths and arpeggiators to create swelling soundscapes. Heavy, aggressive guitars tear through tracks like Gallows, while Part Of The Story and The Days You Used To Love are reflective and evoke feelings of nostalgia, and the title track cascades to a crescendo of hope and triumph.

Making ambient music on Stained Glass: Monochromie

Monochromie strikes back again. Wilson Trouvé, a French composer now living in Belgium, has been composing and releasing ambient music and modern classical compositions since 2012, the year of his debut album “Angels and Demons”. As a pianist, multi-instrumentalist, composer and producer, he has released at least six full-length albums and other EP on various independent labels.

Stained Glass talks about purity, serenity and sometimes storms as well. Life is made of changes, breaks, new starts, periods of noise or silence. Stained Glass tries to capture those moving moments, often ephemeral and beautiful, peaceful or even disturbing, colorful or dark, at night or during a sunny day. Those inspirational and emotional pictures of life always emerge from Monochromie’s music. Stained Glass is also about that light that comes across windows, suddenly enlightening our home and calling us outside for a walk. Monochromie’s music is made of light.

It took two years for Stained Glass to be finally completed with additional tracks. At the same period of time, Wilson Trouvé (Monochromie) has left the south of France to live in Brussels. If you still haven’t heard about Monochromie, let’s start today with Stained Glass which is a stunning collection of ambient and experimental tracks. Then you can explore all of Monochromie’s previous albums including his debut opus “Angels and Demons” released in 2012 on Fluttery Records.

Sophomore release of Sleeping Horses: Water For Air

We are very happy to again to go to Portland, OR and bring you the sophomore album by Sleeping Horses which which is a delight for ambient music lovers.

They say that the sophomore release can be the hardest, but Sleeping Horses James Fouty makes it seem effortless and delivers the emotion with a passionate drive that expands upon the first album as it picks up almost exactly where the debut left off. Less than a year from the release of his debut, Sleeping Horses has raised the bar with Water for Air.

The Oregon based recording artist took no breaks from songwriting, painstakingly sweating over every tone, arrangement and melody. The passion drips from each measure and overtone as if it were dipped in the deepest and most elaborate feelings possible. Take every sunset you can never forget, every moonlit walk with the heart of a young lover, every time you knew you were in the middle of what would become the most memorable moments of your life, and you might come close to Water for Air. With its lush string arrangements and analogue ambient music textures, Water for Air is a collection from a songwriter in his prime, the honesty poured into this LP is evident in every track.

Dan Caine – Journey Through an Open Mind

LISTEN

Track List

1. Journey Through an Open Mind
2. Arcus
3. Take Flight
4. The Space Between Thoughts

Dan Caine - Journey Through an Open Mind

Journey Through an Open Mind is the eighth release by prolific ambient / post-rock guitarist Dan Caine, and another exploration of his intuitive style of making music through progressive guitar melodies and expressive textures. This time, the journey goes even deeper.

The title track is a ten-minute sprawling and expansive electric guitar jam over a repeating acoustic guitar refrain and electronic beats, supplemented by layered ambient textures that create a brooding atmosphere that gradually builds. This track will take the listener on a captivating journey.

The second track, Arcus, is a progressive guitar improvisation with a delayed guitar melody, supported by effected e-bow and guitar textures that draws the listener in. A truly relaxing, yet energizing piece.

Track 3, Take Flight, incorporates bluesy guitar over a progressive melody that increases with intensity and suspense as the song develops, conjuring imagery of movement and rousing the listener to metaphorically do as the title says – take flight. The final track, The Space Between Thoughts, is the sound of being at peace. In the space between thoughts, all that remains is a blissful mind in a state of present moment awareness. This is a peaceful track that concludes the EP perfectly.
